This is a traditional yellow with red berry wooden pecking chicken paddle toy. The bright color gives this toy a typical folk art look. The toy is handpainted and carved in Russia.

Measures approximately 5" in diameter, is 1.5" tall and the handle is 2.5" long

How it works: There are 5 chickens whose beaks are pointing down, ready to peck their food. There is a small wooden ball attached to 5 strings that hangs from the bottom of the paddle. You grab the wooden handle and to make the chickens peck their food you slowly twirl the paddle in a circular motion. This makes the ball swirl around on the bottom of the paddle and the chickens go up and down and peck their food in the center of the board!
